The Local Historical Society was set up to preserve the oral and personal history of the local people of Oxford. The society creates opportunities for local residents to have their own history remembered in a series of projects in and around the city of Oxford.
The Local Historical Society was officially set up in December 2006, but had been running about a year before this. The first official project from the society was The Local Plaque Initiative, but before this, the un-named society had done a few other projects around Oxford involving tourists and the local people.

The most successful of these was a guided walking tour around the city, showing the places local people use, rather than looking at the university.

The Society uses stroies from local people, visitors and students as a base for its projects. If you would like to get involved and donate a story (or two) please email us!
